Open Innovation: Where We’ve Been, and Where We Need to Go

Approximately 1.2 billion people are learning a new language. The majority are doing so in pursuit of a better life. As part of our mission to make education free for everyone, we studied millions of people spanning every country on the planet until we made a shocking discovery that led us on a journey around the world, throughout the Middle East and eventually inside one of the world’s largest refugee camps in Azraq, Jordan - where even more unexpected discoveries awaited.
Open Innovation has become an important aspect of most companies’ innovation activities. While there are many success stories, there have also been many disappointments. For open innovation to really pay off, it’s critical that it moves from the front end of innovation into the business units of each company. In short, it’s not what you start, it’s what you finish. Examine effective practices to connect open innovation more effectively to the rest of the company and finish the innovation job.
IBM has created it’s own flavor of the design thinking framework to help scale innovation across the company in the product space.
