David Dombrowski positions himself as an Industrial Design leader at the epicenter of what he refers to as, The Design Pyramid. Where Manufacturing, R&D, Marketing and the Consumer are all equally expressed and considered. David heads Pfizer Consumer Healthcare’s new Industrial Design & Innovation Group, formed in 2012 to make product packages as innovative, appealing and valuable to consumers as the products within.
Growing up in upstate New York, David was inspired by his grandfather, watching him design at his drafting board as Plant Manager for Westcott Ruler Company, David earned a two-year mechanical engineering degree at SUNY Alfred. Following the path of an ME; serendipity intervened. During a job interview at Norelco, the HR director introduced David to the company’s head of Industrial Design. Now fully employed as an assoc. Industrial Designer, David went back to school to earn his Bachelors of Industrial Design at the Univ. of Bridgeport.
In 1990 David later joined Group Four Design, Designing in the area of structural packaging. “That’s where I learned to design packaging with the same focus as designing for products.” He was later recruited by Fisher-Price, developing children’s products for Mom, such as strollers and monitors. David also helped to build cross functional team processes and environments there. David soon took on another challenge: to lead Product and Packaging Design at Schick; delivering to market the Schick Quattro system razor and the innovative Schick Intuition shaving system for women. Still wanting more from Design, David joined Procter & Gamble, where he developed a deeper understanding for Brand building and Experiential Design.
In 2012, Pfizer recruited David to establish the first Industrial Design and Innovation Group. David helps brand teams visualize their strategies and helps bring their visions to life. David is building a capability and culture of experiential design, design thinking and innovation at Pfizer.
