James Schulte is the Director of Exelorate Growth, Exelon Corporation’s internal entrepreneurship initiative. Within Corporate Innovation, Exelorate Growth’s mandate is to launch new customer-centered businesses, products, and services in a de-risked, low cost manner by utilizing a stage gate lean startup model. Schulte leads the team working across Exelon’s entire corporate footprint to innovate within strategic priority areas across the electricity ecosystem and to create value for our customers.
Prior to joining Exelon, Schulte served as a Managing Director at Energy Impact Partners (EIP), the world’s largest energy tech venture fund partnering with utilities and energy companies on innovation. Schulte was responsible for maximizing the strategic impact of EIP’s collaborative activities and operations, from developing C-level Utility of the Future strategy to helping portfolio companies and utility partners work together to deploy new technologies. Earlier in his career, Schulte worked at McKinsey & Company in its Electric Power & Natural Gas practice focusing on utility strategy and large scale transformations. Schulte’s energy tech experience extends directly into the startup world, where he worked on business development and finance at Energy Intelligence, an inaugural winner of the 43North startup competiton, and HEVT, the winner of the 2012 Cleantech Open Global Forum.
Schulte received his joint JD/MBA from the University of Chicago Law School and Booth School of Business (both High Honors) and his BA from Yale University (Cum Laude).
