Understanding cultural forces and how they interact with market forces is Tom’s passion. Teaching the marketing world how the social sciences can be used to build iconic brands is his mission.
During his 17-year career at The Coca-Cola Company, his work was used to guide development of portfolio and M&A strategies, business and brand strategies, HR training programs, and numerous CSR programs such as 5by20 a global effort to empower five million female entrepreneurs by 2020. He has explored such topics as the meaning of wellbeing, happiness, human motivation, the teenage life stage, sustainability, and the rising value of human creativity in over 35 countries.
Prior to Coca-Cola Tom was Vice President at Cheskin Research where he specialized in guiding the development of visual identities for Fortune 100 companies and their brands.
Tom is a member of the National Academy of Sciences’ Roundtable on The Application of Social & Behavioral Sciences; a founding member of the Rexpedition, a think tank focusing on the emerging economy; a contributing member of the Evolution Institute; and an advisor to Mix & Stir Studio, a San Francisco-based incubator for technology companies.
Tom has served on the board of advisors for the University of Georgia’s Masters of Market Research Program; Michigan States’ Master of Science in Marketing Research Program; Just Capital; TMRE; and Sustainable Brands, the world’s preeminent collaboration community for business leaders interested in creating a more sustainable and profitable world.
He’s been a keynote speaker at over 50 venues across the US and around the world. He proudly holds degrees in Marketing and Economics from San Jose State University.
